Houston hitting the road despite budget uproar

The premier denies Tuesday’s 13-hour session in the legislature and the introduction of dozens of changes to various statutes suggests a government in a hurry and “allergic to transparency,” as suggested by Official Opposition and NDP Leader Claudia Chender.

“They don’t want media stories. They want to get in and out as quickly as possible. This government also gave themselves the power in our last legislative sitting to institute closure and time allocation so they can stop the debate of bills whenever they want,” Chender said.

“They’ve given themselves greater power to appoint the independent head of the prosecution service, they’ve given themselves greater power to appoint provincial court judges, they’ve given themselves greater power to appoint the head of postsecondary institutions. 
They are not content to let independent experts do their work.”
