BIDE AWHILE: At Bide Awhile, we need plenty of volunteers with a variety of experience and skills. If you choose to donate your time and energy to our animals, you’ll be carefully matched with a program that interests you—and needs you. The first step is to fill out the volunteer application and mail, email fax or drop it off to Bide Awhile. Then you will be contacted to come in for a short interview.

COMMON ROOTS URBAN FARM-WOODSIDE: Common Roots-Woodside is an urban farm situated on the grounds of the Nova Scotia Hospital, which serves mental health and addictions patients. We use gardening as a way to promote physical, mental and environmental health. We offer skills training and educational workshops on growing vegetables; make healthy food more accessible to hospital clients, staff and the surrounding community; do gardening programming with clients at the hospital; and create a space for growing food and flowers that’s supportive and welcoming. Want to get your hands dirty and work in the sun? We would love to have your help in the garden! Volunteers are needed mostly during daytime hours during the week. COUCH OF HOPE: COH is a registered non-profit charity providing free mental health counselling to individuals, children 10 years of age and up, teens & adults (by appointment only). They have a number of volunteer opportunities: https://couchofhope.com

THE CORNER SHOPPE: The Dartmouth General Hospital Auxiliary operates the “Corner Shoppe” located at the first floor lobby entrance of the Dartmouth General Hospital at 325 Pleasant Street. Corner Shoppe volunteer positions include: manager, shift scheduler, bookkeeper, buyers for giftware and candy and sundries, as well as cashiers. THE CRAIG GALLERY: The Craig Gallery Volunteer duties include sitting in the Gallery during opening hours, answering questions and discussing the current exhibits with gallery guests, and opening and closing the Gallery. Becoming a Craig Gallery Volunteer is a wonderful opportunity to see a wide variety of art, meet new people, and help support the arts in Dartmouth. DARTMOUTH PLAYERS: Can’t act, you say? Have never been involved in theatre before? There are many things you can do that don’t require being on stage. Perhaps you could help build or dress sets; piece together costumes; beg, borrow, make, and/or change props; help the front-of-house staff; take tickets; design play programs; make phone calls; solicit advertising; record minutes; arrange workshops…..the list goes on and on. DARTMOUTH SENIORS SERVICE CENTRE/MEALS ON WHEELS: Since 1976 the Dartmouth Seniors' Service Centre has been providing activities and services which may not otherwise readily available in our community. The Centre offers various social, physical, and educational programs and is on a mission to Centre support seniors, and their families through services, programs, and fun times! Our greatest asset is the volunteer efforts of our members: Daily Hot Lunches, Daily Activities, Catering, Meals on Wheels, Medical Transportation. KIWANIS CLUB OF DARTMOUTH: Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to improving the world, one child and one community at a time. Do you want to spend a few hours helping the children of our community? Our Club supports our children at the Kiwanis Music Festival, runs school breakfast and lunch programs, sends kids to camps, holds youth leadership weekend camps, holds fund raising events, supports Air Cadet Squadrons and many other initiatives.  Volunteering for great causes is very rewarding, and it can be a great opportunity to meet with other like-minded individuals. MARGARET’S HOUSE: Serves a hot lunch, seven days a week from 12:00 - 12:30 p.m. Volunteers generally arrive between 9:30 - 10:00 to assist with lunch preparation, service and clean-up afterwards. A hot supper is served on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 4:30 - 5:00 p.m. Volunteers generally arrive between 2:30 and 3:00 to assist with food preparation, service and clean-up. THE NORTH GROVE: Volunteers are the heart of The North Grove. Volunteers help to enhance and strengthen the programs we offer. Our volunteer program is also about building individual and collective capacity. Through our volunteer program we help individuals build their skills and confidence, as well as develop social connections and a sense of belonging in our community.
