Chender said the impacts of all the cuts are still unknown, and gave a few examples. She said tourism revenue exceeded $3.7 billion in 2025, but the sector doesn’t know what cutting visitor information centres, festivals, arts organizations, and rural museums will mean to that number.
Chender said NSCC and its students contributed more than $2.2 billion to the local economy, but there will be impacts to trimming staff and funding to the community college.
“For the premier and the finance minister to mess with these economic drivers, but have no idea how these choices will impact thousands of jobs and billions of dollars in GDP is beyond irresponsible. It’s incompetent,” Chender said.
“If the premier is going to threaten people’s livelihoods, he has to be able to explain his choices.”
