NDP leader wants pause on N.S. budget process to understand impact of cuts
The leader of Nova Scotia's Official Opposition says Premier Tim Houston's budget includes irresponsible cuts and she's calling on him to hit pause on the debate process until the impact can be better understood and mitigated.
"Even after the government flip-flopped on some of the most outrageous cuts to save face, Nova Scotians still aren't buying it and have many more questions than answers," NDP Leader Claudia Chender said during a news conference Friday.
As MLAs prepare to return to the legislature Monday following March break, Chender said the government's budget, which includes $250 million in cuts, puts at risk sectors that help drive the province's economy, including arts and culture and tourism.
