NDP add to growing calls for N.S. to fix healthcare parking in Halifax
“Staffing is the biggest issue we’re facing in healthcare right now and this decision is just making it more difficult for staff.”
On May 1, parking became free at all hospitals and healthcare facilities in Nova Scotia.
However, there are still limited spaces and staff, especially at the QEII, are encouraged to park in other lots – some that cost and fill up early.
Chender says the issue was “foreseeable”.
“There’s a way to roll it out, but Tim Houston didn’t make a plan,” adds Chender.
“We want Nova Scotians to be able to get to their appointments and to visit loved ones. We also need workers to be there for us when we need them.”
She adds that the province needs leadership that makes a plan before acting and explains the NDP has a petition with over 500 signatures on it.
