It’s hard to believe it’s already been a year since you re-elected me as the MLA for Dartmouth South. I am filled with gratitude and pride every day. This community means so much to me, and it remains one of the greatest honours of my life to be your voice in the Nova Scotia Legislature. More and more of you have been reaching out, whether to seek support, share your views, or let me know what matters most to you, and I want to encourage you to keep doing so. The more I hear from you, the better I can work for Dartmouth South.
There is so much to look forward to in our community over the next few weeks. I’m especially excited for the Sullivan’s Pond Tree Lighting this Saturday, November 29th, and I hope to see you there. I’ll be stopping by the Christkindl Market on my way - always the perfect spot for a bit of holiday shopping. LunaSea Theatre’s LunaSings takes the stage at The Sanctuary Arts Centre on December 1st, featuring incredible local talent and a fantastic silent auction. And on December 5th, I’m hosting a Holiday Open House at Alderney Landing early in the morning with carollers, coffee, sweets, and good conversation. From there, I’ll be heading over to the Dartmouth Seniors Service Centre to host a Seniors Estate Planning Info Session with Legal Info Nova Scotia. It’s a free event, open to all seniors, and I hope many of you can join us. You’ll find even more events listed below.
I’ve also been hearing from many of you about Nova Scotia Power. My office is here to support Dartmouth South constituents with issues on your account, and it is always helpful to understand your experiences firsthand. Despite what the government is saying, the rising power bills, the privacy breach, and the overcharging are all issues they can and should address.
Last but not at all least, Dartmouth Cove has been saved—for now. The Provincial government has decided to accept the HRM bylaw preventing infilling in the cove, with some amendments (LINK), While we examine these, and while we wait for the federal government to clarify their position, at the very least we know that the cove is safe for now. Thank you to each one of you who has fought for this issue, your voice matters. I urge you to keep showing up, keep speaking out, and keep making your values known. I will continue to advocate fiercely for what’s best for our community.
As always, if you need assistance, please reach out to my office at 902-406-2301 or claudiachendermla@gmail.com.
Have a wonderful weekend,
Claudia
