Province House roundup: 12-hour days, OPOR, Chignecto Isthmus, cannabis raids

Premier Tim Houston is away in Calgary this week attending meetings with companies in the energy sector. According to NDP and Official Opposition Leader Claudia Chender, the premier’s repeated absences during this sitting of the legislature have not gone unnoticed.

“When Nova Scotians elected this government, they didn’t expect billions of dollars in contracts to be handed over with no competition. They didn’t expect to be locked out of the people’s house while government literally made decisions behind closed doors,” Chender said on Tuesday.

“They didn’t expect the government to try to force a vote on these cruel cuts close to midnight, or a budget vote at the end of the day before an Easter long weekend. And they didn’t expect the premier to run off to Texas, Toronto, and Calgary, instead of standing up and being accountable to the people for the choices that continue to hurt them.”
