‘Anxious and angry:’ Advocates share impact of budget cut to N.S. caregiver benefit

The Robertsons attended a news conference organized by the NDP on Wednesday to help explain why the NDP is urging Premier Tim Houston’s government to increase the caregiver benefit next January, not reduce it.

“We are asking this government to explain this cruel cut and to decide if they will step up and support our proposal to double the money a caregiver receives,” NDP Leader Claudia Chender said. 

“Our plan will give caregivers hundreds of dollars more a month, and ensure that amount grows with the cost of living. In the meantime, it will save this government vital health care costs by keeping these folks with their loved ones and out of hospitals and long-term care.”
