Province House to stay closed to public until protestors banned, security ramped up

NDP Leader Claudia Chender said she does not think banning people is the appropriate response to last week’s protest.

“The reality is that this government doesn’t want to be transparent. A big piece of transparency is keeping this house open,” she said in an interview.

Chender said she trusts House security to deal with people who are being disruptive or threatening toward MLAs.

Chender said she would rather see efforts directed to MLAs’ constituency offices.

“The places where MLAs are most vulnerable are in their offices where there are often only one member working at a time.”
