'We got it wrong': N.S. government reverses course on some budget cuts after outcry

NDP Leader Claudia Chender said the communities that will have their funding restored will "breathe a sigh of relief," but she argued all the cuts should be reversed.

"This was cruel. And the fact that the government couldn't foresee that raises questions about their competence," she said.

At the legislature on Monday night, the NDP called on the government to reconsider the cuts and moved an amendment that would have defeated the budget bill. That bill is still on the table, but will not pass because the government has a majority in the House.

Chender said while the government talks about increasing revenue, cuts to arts and culture will do the opposite.
