The Houston government’s responses during Question Period are anything but clear
Official opposition leader Claudia Chender posed this question to Premier Tim Houston during Question Period Friday:
This budget has a lot of cuts but no help for Nova Scotians frustrated by their high power bills and bad service. More onshore wind is great (a reference to Houston’s earlier praise for the Mersey River project that will introduce competition into the electricity market in 2028) but it’s not going to help people pay their bills. The energy minister seems to think that complaining about Nova Scotia Power on social media or Postmedia is the extent of his role. But the legislature is sitting, we are here.
If he wants to, he can immediately initiate a review of the utility. He can make changes in how the company is regulated and penalized, so families stop paying through the nose for bad power. If the premier doesn’t want to take action on those things, will he pass the file to someone who will?
