Eight percent power rate hike not a done deal
NDP Leader and leader of the official Opposition Claudia Chender read an opening statement at the hearing filled with a litany of disappointments, including Nova Scotia Power’s handling of a cybersecurity attack that has left tens of thousands of people dealing with being overcharged due to “estimated” power bills.
“It’s generally the responsibility of government, and currently of this board, to ensure that public utility rates, services, and practices are just and reasonable,” Chender said. “The proposed rate, the terrible service, and these lax practices do not meet this threshold.”
