“The government has had a report for over a year, as far as we understand, that they commissioned, that they had a dedicated team of public servants working on the Joint Regional Transportation Authority,” said NDP Leader Claudia Chender. “That report tells them, theoretically, what the solution to congestion and traffic in the HRM area is.”
“And yet,” continued Chender, “we haven’t seen it. We haven’t heard solutions related to it. And now, instead, they want to deliver sweeping powers to a mayor who was elected along with council, who did not run on that platform, something we never heard from this government. Why don’t they actually use the levers available in their sphere and invest and solve the problems that they have so much leverage and possibility to solve?”
“It doesn’t make any sense.”
