Nova Scotia regulatory board tells Halifax Water to recalculate rate hikes for 2026

In a statement, NDP Leader Claudia Chender said the regulator made “the right call,” although there’s still uncertainty on what the rate increases will be for 2026. From Chender’s statement:

People are already spending thousands more on rent and hundreds more on their power bills than when the Houston government was elected, and they can’t afford more increases. 

At the same time, provincially, there is more that the Premier must do to lower people’s bills. He should reverse the cuts his government made to the heating assistance rebate program and provide a 10 per cent rebate to lower people’s bills and counteract rampant over-billing. The government should be doing everything it can to help people afford to build a good life.
