Eight days and out: Fall sitting of Nova Scotia legislature one of the shortest on record

The NDP caucus walked out of the legislature Thursday night in protest of the PCs’ omnibus bill that threw a lot of different issues together. The Protecting Nova Scotians Act included amendments to the Liquor Control Act, requiring bouncers to have criminal record checks and security training, and to the Crown Lands Act, making it illegal to block forest access roads.

“We can’t vote against the good proposals, most of which came from us, and we can’t vote for the poison pills that were put into this legislation,” she said, adding that obviously it would pass without their votes.
