Margaret Skabar - Members Statement
CLAUDIA CHENDER : I rise today to recognize Margaret Skabar, a competitive gymnastics coach at Titans Gymnastics and Trampoline Club in Westphal. Margaret started gymnastics at age six after being inspired by Loonette the Clown and her clock stretch on The Big Comfy Couch. She started coaching part-time when she was 15. After graduating from StFX in 2015, Margaret began coaching at Titans full-time and has coached hundreds of youths through competitive and recreational gymnastics.
Five years ago, she spearheaded a specialized seniors' program at Titans, designed for individuals over the age of 55. This program focuses on fun, low pressure movement to promote strength and balance. With help from the New Horizons for Seniors Program, Titans is able to offer this program completely free. In addition to staying active, this program helps seniors build social connections and a greater sense of community.
I ask the House to join me in congratulating Margaret on her success and on such a wonderful community program.
