How is it already the end of September? Time is flying, and we are all getting back into the swing of things. We’re back to early morning school routines, busy work schedules, and trying to balance everything in between.
The fall sitting of the Nova Scotia Legislature is now complete, after just 9 days. I raised concerns about rent control, affordable housing, income assistance, women’s health, funding for libraries, and many other issues that have come directly from conversations with all of you. Thank you for continuing to reach out and share your concerns. Please keep letting me know what matters most to you and your family. These conversations actively help shape the work I bring to the Legislature and to fighting for a more representative (and functional) government, where cabinet is forced to answer direct questions for more than a few weeks a year!
I was so pleased to attend the first-ever FamFest Atlantic earlier this month! We have some truly incredible local artists in this town, and getting to see so many of them share their talents right here in Dartmouth South was a dream. It was wonderful to see so many families out enjoying the music, workshops, and activities, and I hope we are lucky enough to have FamFest back again next summer.
I was also honoured to offer some words of encouragement to everyone taking part in the HRM Kidney Walk. Standing up for a cause, whether it’s personal to you and your family or simply because you know it’s the right thing to do, brings us together as a community. It inspires hope, and I’m grateful to everyone who came out to walk and support such an important cause.
The Seniors Care Grant is now open! The grant provides $750 to eligible low-income seniors to help with household, healthcare, and home heating costs. If you or someone you know may be eligible, give my office a call and we’d be happy to help you apply. It’s also a good time to remind folks that the Property Tax Rebate for Seniors opened in July and will remain open until December. Our office is happy to help with that application as well.
There are lots of fun activities and events happening in Dartmouth South over the coming weeks. The City of Laughs Comedy Festival is coming up, and I hope to see you there! The Dartmouth Seniors Service Centre has lots of great events as usual, and The Trainyard has some really exciting workshops coming up. Check out the listings below for more information, and I hope to see you out in the community soon!
