Summer is one of my favourite times of year in Dartmouth South. There are lots of great opportunities to get outside, connect with neighbours, and enjoy everything our community has to offer. I always look forward to attending the Halifax Pride Parade, and this year's celebration felt particularly meaningful. I was so happy to see so many people from Dartmouth South taking part, celebrating together, and showing their support for a community where everyone belongs.
Whether you're cooling off at one of our beautiful lakes, picking up fresh produce or browsing the selections at the Alderney Landing Farmers' Market, browsing the Artisan or Waterfront Markets, or making your own wood-fired pizza at the Dartmouth Common Pizza Oven, there are so many ways to make the most of the season. If you're planning a lake day, don't forget that lifeguards are now on duty at our supervised beaches, including nearby Penhorn Lake Beach and Birch Cove Beach. Water quality is tested daily throughout the summer, so you can check local lake water testing before you head out.
So much to do! On July 26, the Jamaican Cultural Association of Nova Scotia will host its 13th Annual Caribbean Diaspora Multicultural Celebration. The Back to the Sea Centre is also hosting another free Community Day on July 29, and the Dartmouth Seniors Service Centre will welcome St. John Therapy Dogs for its "Paws for a Visit" event that same day!
Summer has certainly brought a welcome change of pace, but my team and I are already thinking ahead to the fall sitting of the Legislature. Over the next few weeks, I want to hear from as many people in Dartmouth South as possible about the issues that matter most to you. Whether it's health care, housing, education, affordability, or something happening in your own neighbourhood, your experiences and ideas help shape the work I do on your behalf.
If you'd like to help us connect with even more residents this summer, we'd love to have you join our volunteer team. It's a wonderful way to meet your neighbours, hear about the issues people are facing, and play a meaningful role in strengthening our community. I always enjoy the conversations that happen on the doorstep, and they're one of the best ways to understand what's on people's minds. If you're interested, please don't hesitate to reach out to my office, we'd be happy to chat!
I hope you find some time to enjoy everything Dartmouth South has to offer this summer. As always, if you need assistance, please don't hesitate to contact my office at 902-406-2301 or claudiachender@nsmla.ca.
Have a wonderful weekend,
Claudia
