It’s Spring in Dartmouth South! The flowers are blooming and I’m seeing more of you out and about in our neighbourhoods. Spring is a time for new beginnings, for growth and for hope.
There are so many exciting events on the horizon, along with incredible community initiatives happening right here in Dartmouth South. The Back to the Sea Centre is hosting several pop-ups leading up to its grand reopening on May 16. The Dartmouth Heritage Museum also has a number of upcoming events, be sure to check their website for details. The Dartmouth Seniors Service Centre has a full slate of programs this spring as well; you can find more information in the events section below.
The Spring legislative session has just come to an end, and it was a consequential one for Dartmouth, and for our province. It was full of cruel cuts to tourism, arts and culture, African Nova Scotian Affairs, L’nu Affairs, research and innovation and to the higher education and rural jobs that keep our province going. Entire sectors that support thousands of jobs have been hit. I spent the session highlighting the impact of many of these cuts and fighting against them. I was glad to see some walked back but there is more to do. I know that organizations in Dartmouth that receive these grants have been impacted and I will continue to advocate and assess ways forward.
Thank you for the engagement and passion that so many of you showed in reaching out to my office to express your concerns and ask important questions. Nova Scotians deserve transparency and clarity, they deserve results they can actually see and feel, so they can afford the basics for their families, have reliable health care, and have a chance at a bright future. I am so honoured to be your voice in the legislature and raise your concerns in the house - there will be more opportunities to share your thoughts and concerns moving forward so please don’t hesitate to reach out.
This past year has shown how important our voices are as Nova Scotians. I have said it before and I will definitely say it again, our greatest resource is our people. Our communities who advocate for each other, who stand up for what is right and who engage in issues that matter not only to ourselves but to our greater communities.
Pop into my office and let me know what your priorities are! Hope to see you soon.
As always, if you need assistance, please reach out to my office at 902-406-2301 or claudiachendermla@gmail.com.
Have a wonderful weekend,
Claudia
