Halloween is almost here! With the time change happening this weekend, we’re getting an extra hour of sleep just in time for a busy Saturday night. Check out these Halloween safety tips before heading out. This is also a good time to apply for a few provincial programs. My office can help with applications for the Seniors Care Grant (open until December 1), the Seniors Property Tax Rebate (open until December 31), and the Heating Assistance Rebate Program (open until March 31, 2027). If you need a hand, just get in touch.
There’s still lots of Halloween fun happening around Dartmouth South! The Bluenose Ghosts Festival at Alderney Landing is a local favourite for a little spooky fun, and the 2026 Halifax Witches Ball takes place October 30 at The Sanctuary Arts Centre. The Back to the Sea Centre is hosting a costume contest at noon on Halloween, and the Dartmouth Seniors Service Centre has plenty of fun events planned as usual. You’ll find more details in the newsletter below. Looking ahead to November, the newly reopened Dartmouth Curling Club launches its Learn to Curl program on November 1. It’s great to see so many ways to get out, connect, and enjoy our community!
Hundreds of people in Dartmouth South have contacted me with concerns about the proposed data centre in Point Tupper. I’m taking those concerns seriously and pushing for answers about what this project could mean for our power bills, the environment, local communities, and our economy. While we continue to push for an emergency session of the legislature, we did manage to get the departments involved and EverWind to the Natural Resources and Economic Development Committee on Tuesday. Unfortunately we still don’t have concrete, legislated protections and commitments. ’ll keep pressing for transparency and clear answers about the deal, its potential costs and benefits, and the protections in place for Nova Scotians.
I’m spending as much time as I can out in our neighbourhoods and knocking on doors this fall. I always appreciate hearing directly from people about what matters to them. If we haven’t crossed paths yet, please reach out anytime. I’d love to hear what’s on your mind. As always, if you need assistance please don’t hesitate to contact my office at 902-406-2301 or claudiachender@nsmla.ca.
Happy Halloween!
