As September settles in and the school year gets underway, many of us are returning to familiar routines, and preparing for the return of the Legislature on September 23. Whether you're navigating the back-to-school rush, helping someone head off to university, or simply shifting into fall mode, this is a time of new beginnings and renewed focus. As we head into this legislative session, I want to hear from you. What provincial priorities are top of mind for you and your family? Your insights help shape the work I do in Province House. And a quick reminder that Seniors Care Grant applications are now open! If you or someone you know needs help applying, please reach out to my office. We're more than happy to book a time to assist.
There are plenty of opportunities to connect, learn, and get involved this fall here in Dartmouth South. The Dartmouth Seniors Service Centre has some great events coming up, including their Lunch and Learn focused on Orange Shirt Day, a valuable opportunity to reflect on truth, reconciliation, and the legacy of residential schools. They’re also hosting a Saturday market on October 10th, a great way to support local vendors and connect with neighbours. The MacPhee Centre for Creative Learning is now accepting registrations for their fall programs, an incredible resource for creative teens in our community. And for live music lovers, keep an eye on the lineup at The Sanctuary Arts Centre - there are some exciting performances on the horizon!
Protecting Dartmouth Cove remains a major priority for our community. Councillor Sam Austin has encouraged residents to reach out directly to Council to express concerns about the proposed infill project while they await a motion to provide the same protection to Dartmouth Cove as has been extended to the Northwest Arm. I’ve also spoken clearly about what’s at stake at the provincial level. If this proposal moves forward, it risks undermining millions in provincial and federal investments in the Centre for Ocean Ventures and Entrepreneurship (COVE). I want to thank everyone who has spoken up already, especially Jill Brogan and the Friends of Dartmouth Cove. Their advocacy has been tireless and inspiring. As we gear up for the fall legislative session, I want to emphasize just how much I value hearing from you. Your ideas, concerns, and lived experiences shape how I represent Dartmouth South. Please don’t hesitate to reach out, whether it's an issue you’re passionate about, a concern you want to raise, or a question about how government decisions impact your life.
