What a week filled with love and support in and out of Dartmouth South. My colleagues, friends and family had such a blast walking in the pride parade and seeing folks come together to support and celebrate the LGBTQIA+ Community. The pride festivities didn’t stop there! From the Pride Barbecue at the Dartmouth Senior Centre to Pride Face painting at the MacPhee Centre, along with many more pride events that occurred, Halifax Pride 2025 is one to be remembered!
As we head into August, there’s no stopping with the fun filled events. As the pride events come to a close, we are getting prepared for this year’s Natal Day Parade. Join us in walking in the Natal Day parade on August 1st and help us celebrate the ‘birth’ of Halifax. If you’re interested in joining us in the parade, sign up HERE.
Something that I know many of you are struggling with is just how unaffordable Halifax has become and how urgently we need action. Right now, people in Halifax are spending as much, or more, on housing and transportation as people in Toronto. That would’ve been unthinkable just a decade ago. I hear from people every day who are working full-time and still struggling to afford rent, food, and gas. We need real solutions: rent control, investment in public transit, and a serious commitment to building affordable housing. Most importantly, we need someone in government whose job it is to make sure housing is affordable in this province. That’s the least Nova Scotians deserve.
In the face of challenges like these, what keeps me hopeful is the strength of our community. Whether it’s marching together at Pride or lending a hand to neighbours who are struggling, we show up for each other in big and small ways. Let’s keep building that kind of community, where no one is left behind and where we look out for each other, always.
