RAG & BONE, by Genny Killin - Opening Reception

“Opening reception Wednesday, May 1st, 5-7pm

Artist Talk Saturday, May 4th, 2pm

All Welcome

Join us on Wednesday May 1st from 5-7pm in The Craig Gallery for the opening reception of a series of exciting new sculptural works by artist Genny Killin.

Genevieve Killin is a Halifax NS born, educated and based artist. She received a BFA in painting from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in 1984, and a Certificate of Costume Studies from Dalhousie University in 1981. She has worked since 1980 in theatre and television, making and designing costumes and props, and doing set decoration. She has exhibited in group shows and created outdoor, site specific, public installations for the Uncommon Common Art project since 2013.

Genevieve Killin’s recent works grew out of an exploration of landscape painting, being on the land, the Victorian display of curiosities, and the idea of artifact. These works are enlarged abstractions of the fragments found in nature and displayed as curios or relics. With these pieces the artist is striving to give gravitas to the decorative.

"These works in plaster are abstractions of objects found in the wild and abandoned places. Bits of bone, rock and rubbish; the flotsam and jetsam of the past. Reminders of how time moves in one direction, from the beginning to the end. Tokens of histories reworked and pinned to velvet, curios of an avid collector of time."

Genny will also be doing an artist talk on Saturday, May 4th at 2pm in The Craig, all welcome.”
