Fermentation: Making "Shrubs" aka: Drinking Vinegars

"Shrubs are sweetened, vinegar-based syrups also known as drinking vinegars. These syrups are infused with herbs and spices and are often used in cocktails or mixed with carbonated water. Shrubs are a great way to preserve berries or other fruits for the off-season as well! These drinks are becoming quite popular as an apertif or as an alternative to bitters in cocktails - come learn from Sem De Swart, new to Canada from the Netherlands, Sem is a master of all fermented goods and is experimenting regularly with locally harvested goods. 

If this is your first time attending a barter-based skills-trade class, note that there are no fees for participating but attendees are encouraged to bring an item to offer in exchange for the knowledge shared in addition to any supplies required for the class. Facilitator's preferred items are listed on every class listing. Barter items are not required - do not let barter be a barrier for your participation :)

For this session our facilitator would gratefully accept any of the following barter items: locally roasted coffee, local produce, happy meat or fish, olive oil, specialty vinegars, homemade goods (food, art or other fun stuff).
