The Struggle for Land Titles in North Preston

A Legacy at Risk: The Struggle for Land Titles in North Preston

For years, many residents of North Preston, and other historic Black communities in Nova Scotia have been fighting to get clear titles to their land. When the land was granted to their ancestors, more than 200 years ago, they were not given title, which means even today land cannot be legally passed down to family members and could be sold off by the Crown.

This session features videos from the award-winning NSCC student journalism project “Untitled: The Legacy of Land in North Preston” and a discussion facilitated by Angela Simmonds, a Community Legal Liaison/Advocate.

WHEN: Saturday, February 10th from 2 pm to 4 pm

WHERE: Cole Harbour Place, 51 Forest Hills Pky.
